Last weekend (July 29-31st) was my best friend (and roommate) Nicholas' 29th birthday. We celebrated with 2 days of noisy independent music.
Friday, July 29th
Memory Lanes - Seward, Minneapolis
Lineup:
- O’Haste Annihilation (Reunion)
- Ogre Smash Death Boom
- Sundowners
- Del Cabo
I had never seen O’Haste Annihilation perform before, and man, they were awesome. After a three year hiatus they are back, and seemingly, in full force. They got the small crowd going hard ("please, the audience can not be on the stage"). I have to mention that Memory Lanes was oddly slow for a Friday night; other people lost hard for not coming out. O'Haste was the highlight for me, though I really dug Sundowners performance, as well.
Nicholas and I were admiring this handsome gentleman wearing a leopard print leotard. We spoke to him in the bathroom, it wasn't awkward (think: how does a man pee wearing a leotard?). All kinds of awesome. That dude also looksa remarkably like our good friend Tom Shestek.
Saturday, July 30th
Nick & Eddie Warehouse - Loring Park, Minneapolis
Lineup:
- Sorrycok
- Teenage Moods
- Prostate
- O’Haste Annihilation
- Bouncer Fighter
You can't tell by the awful photo of it (to the right), but Nick and Eddie has a super awesome alleyway. They had live music playing out in the quaint European alley. I loved the vibe. Nicholas and I will be hanging out there more often.
Sorrycok sounded pretty decent. I don't remember Teenage Moods. Prostate were more amazing than last time I saw them. Their set was completely different than at Heavy Focus 4. This time out it was more ambient. The beats were dissonant and haunting. I appreciate Seth's approach to vocals, and any looping/delay/reverb was tasteful and well done. Prostate owned this show.
O’Haste Annihilation were awesome yet again. Nicholas and I left before Bouncer Fighter played, as we both have seen them numerous times (Nicholas moreso).
We ended the night with a trip to Denny's. Yes, Denny's. I had some kind of a meat lovers scramble. It was ridiculous.
love,
joe
